SGWW HERSTORY
Smart Girl, Wise Woman is a blog and workshop series for young women 14-24.
There are thousands of self help groups, life coaches and gurus who cater to women in their late 20s, 30s and older. Where do young women fit in between adolescent rights of passage groups and the Women’s Circles so many of your mothers and grandmothers have been part of?
Right here, that’s where!
Smart Girl, Wise Woman emerged from conversations with women aged 14 to 60, many of whom expressed a desire for stronger relationships with their mothers. I realized that my own supportive bond with my mother was not the norm, inspiring this platform. We aim to bridge the gap between adolescent rites of passage and traditional women’s circles. We provide a space for young women aged 14 to 22 to explore their transition into womanhood. Our blog features wisdom from older women sharing their experiences, anonymous voices from younger girls, and stories from young women in our workshops. We are building a community to share happy and sad times, triumphs, failures, compassion, heartache, and the power to overcome life’s challenges.
WHY THE BUTTERFLY?
Butterfly transformation, the process of morphing from caterpillar form, is a beautiful, often difficult process requiring patience, embracing change, and overcoming struggle, symbolizing hope, new beginnings, and finding inner strength to become something magnificent.
The path from being a girl, through adolescence to becoming a woman is full of growing pains, challenges and opportunities to figure out who we are. SGWW is a place to learn to follow YOUR path, celebrate YOUR gifts, and appreciate YOUR inner strength in your journey towards transformation into the Wise Woman you are becoming. From chrysalis to butterfly, find your path to womanhood.
“You do not just wake up and become the butterfly. Growth is a process” ~Rupi Kaur
“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” – Maya Angelou
